Bernedoodles are a mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. They are loyal, loving, and eager to please. They make excellent pets for families, especially those with young children.
The Australian Mountain Doodle is a combination of Poodle, Australian Shepherd and Bernese Mountain Dog. From the Aussie side you have an extremely loyal, eager to please companion that matures quickly and early resulting in an easier puppy to raise. The Bernese is a sweet, gentle giant, excellent with children and very easy going. The Poodle provides the hypoallergenic and low shedding qualities so desirable by families today. All are very smart and trainable which will make life in your family easier. The combination of three separate gene pools provides good diversity and hybrid vigor. The smaller size of the Aussie and natural tri coloring (with Irish Trim like the Bernese Mountain Dog), allows a natural and safe reduction in overall size while keeping the desirable coloring of the Bernese.
Yes. We run genetic DNA health test to be sure we aren't breeding a carrier to a carrier. We also OFA and PennHIP to rate and score hips, elbows, and hearts.
We produce phantoms, tricolors, and occasionally parti (mostly white) colored Bernedoodles and Australian Mountain Doodles in brown, black, and with or without merle.
Standards are usually 50 pounds plus. Mediums range between 30-45 pounds. Mini's are 10-25 pounds.
This refers to the generation of the doodle litter. An F1 is he first pairing of unrelated breeds resulting in a 50/50 % mix of both breeds.
An F1b is A hybrid breed crossed back to one of the parent breeds. The b stands for backcross to one of the parent breeds (usually a poodle) and will usually result in a higher number of puppies with wavy and curly coats.
An F2 is a hybrid breed crossed to a hybrid breed of same original mix. For example an Aussiedoodle x Aussiedoodle resulting in an approximate 50/50 % mix*. Also called multi generational (multigen) or double doodles. When you are working towards establishing the Aussiedoodle as a "breed" and striving towards a consistent "look" then you will be working towards breeding F2's and F2b's. Breeders who say they only breed F1's usually do it because that is all they have and they most likely had poodles already from their Goldendoodle or Labradoodle litters and thought it would be easy to add an Australian Shepherd. They also like to say the F2's shed more which is blanket statement that shows no insight into how coat genetics work. How would they know if they only deal with F1's? We believe in the Aussiedoodle as a future breed and spend considerable time and money to ensure it's success. We genetically test our dams and sires, x-ray hips and elbows, test for color to ensure safe pairings and very importantly, we genetically test for coat curl and facial furnishings. While some of our planned litters will be paired solely in order to retain the typical "doodle" characteristics, we also believe the genetic health and temperament are the most important attributes with coat and color secondary.
Their lifespan is around 10-16 years depending on size. Standards are around 10-12 years. Mediums live 12-16 years. Mini's live 14-16 years.
Bernedoodles can be prone to hip, elbow dysplasia and eye problems. Just like most other breeds they can get cancer. We genetic health testing to hopefully reduce the health concerns for Bernedoodles.
Yes, we offer a 2 year health guarantee on testable genetic conditions. We offer a 1 year on hips without Nuvet Vitamins, and a 2 year on hips if taking Nuvet Vitamins.
Bernedoodles come in many colors. We produce phantoms (tan markings like a Doberman), tricolors (like a Bernese Mountain Dog), and occasionally parti colored bernedoodles all in brown, black, and merle.

Some of our litters are and some aren't registered with the Continential Kennel Club. It depends on the stud used and if they are CKC registered. You may register your Bernedoodle with the Continential Kennel Club and you need no information from me.
Puppies are raised in our home in a room off the kitchen and living room. Puppies get a full dose of everyday life. When they get a bit older, they move to a heated and cooled puppy room where they have more room to move around.
Yes. You will sign a legal and binding contract with us. If you choose to break the contract, there are monetary penalties for a breach of contract along with a fee for every puppy produced along with return of the dog. It's also why a copy of your Driver's License or I.D. may be required.
Some people are allergic to dander, others are allergic to saliva. We can mail a blanket with the dogs' scent on it and see how you react. We highly suggest trying to visit a friend's doodle to see how you react to it.
F1 Bernedoodles are a first generation cross where the puppy is 50 percent Bernese Mountain Dog and 50 percent Poodle. F1b Bernedoodles are a backcross; puppies are 25 percent Bernese Mountain Dog and 75 percent Poodle. F2 Bernedoodles are a second-generation cross. For example, a F1 Bernedoodle crossed with a F1 Bernedoodle makes an F2.

Puppies will be able to go to their new homes when they reach 8 weeks of age. Ideally on a Friday or Saturday so that you and your new puppy can spend the weekend bonding. Sometimes we might keep a puppy past 8 weeks if it needs more time to grow. If you are unable to pick up your puppy during the 8th week, we charge $20 per day to board for 9 weeks+.
Because my veterinarian has looked over the puppy and given a clean bill of health. Maybe they missed something. If your vet finds a congenital defect, it needs to be within the first 3 days with you. Otherwise, I am not responsible and can not offer anything in return.
Our moms live as pets in their forever home. We utilize guardian homes, so we aren't housing more dogs than we can handle. These dogs are very affectionate and love their humans and thrive in a family setting. We use studs from across the USA and are family pets as well.
Unfortunately, no. I do not want my moms stressed from visitors. This is also our home to our 3 human kids. When we have puppies present, our house is transformed to care for puppies with a whelping box, flooring, and fences in place. When we do not have puppies, everything is put in storage. We don't have kennel runs or a facility. We raise puppies in our home. Since we do not have a physical fence, but have an underground invisible fence, temporary fences are used during outside playtime. If possible, we will have a Puppy Party when puppies are 5 weeks old and people on our deposit list can come visit.
I'm pretty laid back, but this is an absolute NO. Mothers can be very protective of her puppies to outside dogs. There is no way to know how an adult dog with react to puppies who have sharp teeth, claws and no manners. A negative experience for the puppies could imprint a lifetime of fear. We do this to keep puppies, mom and your dog safe. Plus, we do not want to introduce unnecessary germs to the puppies from another dog who doesn't live at our house.
Oh yes! Our puppies have weekly and daily activities for them to work on. We are working them physically by giving toys to climb on or into. We play nose scent games for them to find the treats. We use a clicker to mark good behaviors. They are exposed to strange noises (vehicles cranking, lawn mower), smells, sensations (like a car ride.) We challenge their minds to gain confidence and trust in themselves and the world around them.
No dog is 100% hypoallergenic and if a breeder says so, run! Bernedoodles are allergy friendly compared to others due to their poodle genetics.
No worries. At Boxwood Doodles, if for any reason you are unable to keep your puppy or dog, you must return it for us to rehoming. We will take on the burden of finding a new home for him or her.You may receive a portion of the original Purchase Price after we have deducted applicable maintenance, training, veterinary and other costs.
Selections are made once puppies reach 6 weeks of age and have been cleared by our Louisiana Licensed Veterinarian. At 6 weeks old, they get their first round of shots and a wellness exam. We want to be able to disclose anything our Vet might find before selections are made.
We have not been able to tell a firm difference between the personalities of boys and girls. Each puppy is born with a personality that it unique to them.
YIKES! Are you crazy?! Just kidding! I love that you are thinking about your puppy and putting your puppies needs first... but honestly, only pet owners with experience should explore this option. Litter Mate Syndrome is when the puppies bond with each other, over the owner. It's incredibly challenging to train puppies who are both going through the same developmental stages. We suggest getting a puppy now and getting a 2nd once your puppy is 12 months or older.
We microchip each puppy before they leave us to not only give peace of mind to the owner should their puppy get lost or wander off, but also to ensure a Boxwood Doodles puppy never end up in a shelter. The microchip is registered to the new owner using the info that was provided on the application and can be traced back to Boxwood Doodles.
Puppy Selctions are around 6weeks old after puppies have had thier wellness exam from our vet. We go in the order of deposits received. Locals may come visit, where as our out of town families will receive pictures, video's, personality descriptions, and even Facetime.
We reserve the right to offer selections as it best suits our breeding program and to hold back any puppy we need to advance our program. We appreciate your understanding and our support of our passion.
For deposits, we accept Zelle, PayPal (invoiced with a 3.5% fee), Personal Check, Cashiers Check or Walmart Moneygram sent Certified Mail.
For Final Payment at 6 weeks old, we accept Zelle, Personal Check (must be received at least 14 days prior to pick up). Cash at pick up is the only method accepted on the day of pick up. If we have not received the final amount by this date your puppy pick and spot on the list will be forfeited and available to another family. The puppy is considered yours once the deposit and final payment is received.
We do not offer breeding rights at this time.
Our contract states proof of spay/neuter must be given before the dogs 1st birthday. Otherwise, there are monetary penalties. We do not sell our Boxwood Doodles Puppies with the right to reproduce a litter of puppies. If you are interested in breeding, please let us know so we can ensure you are breeding ethically and we can discuss mentorship with you.
Socialization is so important for puppies during the 1st year of life. While we do want you to expose your puppy to new experiences, you must remember they are not fully vaccinated until after 4-5 months old. They are vulnerable to sickness and diseases. If you have kids, think of it like this... Would you let your toddler crawl on the floor of Target? NO! Would you let your toddler ride in the buggy? Yes! Treat your puppy the same way. Remember dogs lick thier paws so anywhere they walk, they can trasmit those germs and get sick. Do bring your dog to a friends house with vaccinated dogs. DON'T let your puppy walk into the Vets office. Bring them on car rides. Bring your puppy for carline if getting kids from school and drivethrus for food.
Most puppies will need to eat 3 times a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. We typically offer a bowl of food for 10-15 minutes then take them outside to potty. If you have a mini bernedoodle, they will need 4-5 feedings per day. Be careful not to overfeed and tailor feeding schedules that best meet your puppy's needs.
Yes and No. I've found this answer to be dependent on the person answering and varies from person to person. Anything with hair sheds. The hair shaft eventually dies and the hair falls out. As humans, we find it in a hairbrush, or maybe in the shower. Same for these dogs. Does a Bernedoodle from Boxwood Doodles shed like a Labrador Retriever - NO! Do they shed some - Yes. Does it get on clothes and furniture - NO. Well what do I mean they shed but they don’t – you’ll find little dust bunny of hairs around the baseboards of your house. You’ll see the dust bunnies of hair when your Bernedoodle blows their puppy coat and is gaining their adult coat. Also depending on if you have a straight, wavy, or curly coat, the hair can either fall freely to the floor (straight coat), maybe some fall but some get trapped or matted (wavy coat), or it gets completely trapped (curly coat) because with curly coats, the hair shaft is a corkscrew shape and unless it’s brushed out, it gets trapped, thus leading to uncomfortable mats. Furnishings (fluffy face) plays a role in shedding as well. All our Boxwood Doodles Bernedoodle puppies carry 1 of these furnishing genes and some carry 2 but don’t worry, only 1 furnishing gene is needed to be fluffy and not shed.
