We chose St. Jude in honor of Brecken Shadow Owens; that precious blonde hair cutie in the pic. He is the 4 year old son of Valerie and Rob Owens of Ruston, Louisiana and big brother to Vale. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia just shy of his 2nd birthday in March 2018. His 3 year battle and treatment will be completed in October 2020.
Breck is the great-grand nephew of Glen Shadow. Many bernedoodle fanciers can appreciate Mr. Shadow's tireless efforts to bring the Bernese Mountain Dog to the United
States. The AKC (American Kennel Club) officially registered the Bernese Mountain Dog in 1937 thanks to Mr. Shadow. Mr. Shadow did not have children, but treated his nieces, one of which is Rob Owens Mother, like they were his own. There's even stories that Mr. Shadow was given full responsibility to care for the King of England's Bernese Mountain Dogs, during World War II. What an honor that must of been!
As a Bernedoodle breeder, I am thankful for Mr. Shadow and his efforts to bring this beautiful and loyal breed, to the USA. I am so grateful for the miracles being performed at St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the hope they give families. I hope to honor Mr. Shadow's namesake, Brecken Shadow Owens, who has underwent so much, at such a young age and all the children and staff of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
You can check out Breck and Vale to see all the amazing things Valerie, Breck's mom, is doing. A portion of every item sold goes back to St. Jude. Follow her on Facebook! Also #battlelikeaBOS for updates on Breck.
